working hard in nicaraguaPosted: June 29, 2014
Just published are two newsletters, with news from Central America and Nicaragua. And don’t forget about our Nicaragua evening on July 2nd (see here).
ProNica has worked in Nicaragua for a long time – the Campaign has been a partner for them with work with Los Quinchos in la Chureca. The newsletter describes a number of projects they have been supporting, including work with children and on health issues. The newsletter can be found here).
CAWN (Central America Women’s Network)has been busy working on their latest newsletter. It includes a summary of work with their partners, and articles analysing the effect of regional social and economic changes on women. Among the articles this time is one of the impact of the ‘war on drugs’. The summer 2014 newsletter is available here.
Linked with CAWN’s work and our fund-raising and awareness evening, the feminist group has produced a report looking at the work of women’s organisations in Nicaragua which use the media to challenge machismo. Here’s the briefing paper l – Subverting Sexism: Using Socio Dramas too Socialise in Nicaragua. The work of Puntos de Encuentro, which appears in the film next Wednesday evening, is one of the organisations under the microscope in the paper.
